스타 컨트롤의 후속작으로 Dos와 3DO로 발매된 우주 어드벤처 RPG 게임이다. 전반적인 인터페이스는 전작과 동일하지만 보다 넓은 스케일과 스토리로 스타 컨트롤 시리즈중 가장 큰 인기를 얻었다. 진행 순서는 메인 퀘스트와 비선형적인 서브 퀘스트들로 구성되어 있고, 이 구조는 스타 컨트롤의 정신적 후계작인 매스 이펙트 시리즈에서 다시 따오게 된다.

2002년 3DO에서 코드소스의 라이센스를 GNU GPL로 풀어버렸기 때문에 리메이크 프로젝트가 진행되었고, Ur-Quan Masters 라는 이름으로 발표되었다. Star Control의 이름을 못 쓰는 것은 스타 컨트롤의 트레이드 마크와 상표권은 제작사인 Accolade가 갖고 있는데 아타리가 인수해버려서 쓸 수가 없었다. Ur-Quan Master는 오픈소스로 개발되어서 윈도우, 리눅스, 맥OS, 안드로이드, iOS 등 다양한 플랫폼으로 포팅되었다. 거기다 원작의 모든것을 재현한 것 위에 모든 대사에 음성을 넣었다. 각 종족마다 찰진 성우의 목소리가 정말 일품. 다만 원작의 CD 음원은 저작권의 문제로 원작 CD를 갖고 있는 경우에 한해서만 들을 수 있다.
